Florence Marie Girard

Tiverton, RI - Florence Marie Sherman Girard, 88, of 1215 Main Road, Tiverton, RI, formerly of 17 Brent Road, Manchester, CT, died Friday, August 25, 2006, surrounded by loving family. She was the wife of Vincent G. Girard and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 28th. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence Connelly Sherman.Mrs. Girard had worked as a bookkeeper for Wetstone Tobacco in Manchester, CT, for manuy years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Bridget?s Church in Manchester, CT. Mrs. Girard was an avid golfer and reader, a crossword enthusiast, an accomplished bridge player, and a talented knitter. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons Vincent G. Galvin Jr. of Glastonbury, CT, and Armand Girard of Evanston, IL, a daughter Lynn Galvin of Portsmouth, RI, a sister Mildred Dunne of Jensen Beach, FL, ten grandchild Catherine Abraham, Beth Girard, Gregory Girard, Mark Girard, Scott Girard, Timothy Girard, Girard Galvin, Andrew Galvin, Conor Galvin, and Kevin Galvin, and a great grandson Jack Girard. She was als the sister of the late William Sherman.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 am in St. Bridget?s Church, Manchester, Connecticut. Visiting hours Friday at 9:30 am, in the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, Conn.A memorial service will be held in the Sakonnet Bay Manor, 1215 Main Road, Tiverton, RI, at a date and time to be announced for her new and wonderful friends in RI.
