Newport, - Florence S. Shellman Carmen, 78, of Newport, died Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Carmen. Born in Newport, RI on February 9, 1925, she was the daughter of late Ernest and Minnie Ellis Shellman.Mrs. Carmen was a Medical Secretary with Naval Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Emmanuel Church and served on the Emmanuel Church Vestry. She is survived by her daughter Karen C. Windley of Newport, RI, her sister Bertha OLoughlin of El Cajon, CA, four granddaughters Karen A. Chafton, Christine M. Poe, Carol L. Cardoza all of Tiverton, RI, and Stephanie K. Windley of Long Beach, CA, and two grandsons George L. Cardoza III of Tiverton, RI, and Daniel J. Windley of Germany and five great granddhildren.She was the mother of the late Patricia F. Cardoza, the sister of the late Edward Shellman, Harold Shellman, Fred Shellman, Ruth Hibben, Evelyn DAndrea, Margaret Scheel, and Grace Edwards, and great grandmother of the late Jeffrey A. Poe Jr. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2003, at 10:00 AM in Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
