Frances G. Banks

Frances G. (Cope) Banks, age 93, of Newport died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. She was the wife of the late George H. Banks.Born in Providence, RI on May 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Jennie S. (Larson) Cope. Mrs. Banks was a 1939 graduate of Rogers High School. After attending Bryant College for two years she worked in Washington D.C. and then returned to Newport where she worked in the torpedo station. Frances, while living in Long Island, NY, was the Office Manager of the Plainview Jewish Center for many years, where she was honored as the "Woman of The Year." After retiring, Frances returned to her beloved city of Newport. She was an active member of St. George's Episcopal Church and St. Mary's Episcopal Church, where she served on the alter guild and volunteered in the thrift shop. Frances loved the ocean, the woods, and animals, but mostly she cherished her friends and family.She leaves her son, Stephen G. Banks, his wife Donna, and her grandson, Brendan Banks of Rockville Centre, NY, her granddaughter, Katherine Starks, her husband Kendryck, and her great grandson Gavin William Starks of Cincinnati, OH.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 1:00 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
