Frances J. Drake

Portsmouth RI - Frances June Drake, 86 of Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton RI passed away Wednesday 11/05/14 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Fran was the wife of the late Capt. John Francis Drake, USN, Ret. Born in Dedham, MA on June 4, 1928 and was the daughter of John and Laura (Barker) Warren. Mrs. Drake was a dedicated Navy wife who raised nine wonderful children. As young adults, John and Fran got married on his first naval tour in Charleston, SC. Following various relocations, they settled in Portsmouth, RI and lived in Redwood Farms. In addition to raising their children, Fran was dedicated to the community having served as a communicant and choir member at Saint Barnabas Church. She was also a supporter of Meals on Wheels, and active with The Navy Wife's Club, and other naval organizations. Before dedicating herself to her husband and children, Fran was a manager with Bell Communications in MA. Fran was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially her local teams. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and will be remembered as a Nana who always had a smile on her face and loved her grandchildren unconditionally. She is survived by her children, Richard E. Drake of Everett, WA, Laura Blackall of Schertz, TX, Catherine L. Coffey of Boston, MA, Robert L. Drake of Portsmouth, RI, Jean M Fucile of Norfolk, VA, and Theresa M. DeVine of Portsmouth, RI. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren with more on the way. She is preceded in death by her husband Capt. John F. Drake, and daughters Diane R. Drake, Mary S. Riordan, and Donna M. Garcia. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 13, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road Portsmouth, RI. Her funeral will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road Portsmouth.
