Newport, RI - Frances M. Grieco, 92, formerly a resident at 549 Wapping Road in Portsmouth for over thirty years, died Thursday, June 21, 2007 at St. Clare Home in Newport. Born in New York, NY on Dec. 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Greco Grieco.Ms. Grieco, a 1937 graduate and alumna of New York University, was an Executive Assistant to the president of Squibb Corp. in New York before retiring. She had been a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth since 1974. Ms. Grieco spoke French, Italian and English. She was a great teacher and mentor whose guidance and instruction enhanced each life she encountered. She was accomplished in the art of tapestry and needlepoint and was an avid gardener who enjoyed vibrant sunny days of planting her pink and red geraniums. She had a great love for all animals, especially West Highland Terriers. She is survived by her sister, Theresa Cavanagh of Newport, her niece, Mary Cavanagh Dunn and her husband, Richard of Hopewell Junction, NY, her nephew, Ronald J. Cavanagh, M.D. and his wife, Linda of Chico, CA, great nephews Ronald and Kevin Dunn, and Michael, Patrick and Thomas Cavanagh, and a great niece, Marie Cavanagh. She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Lucy, Bella, Sabina, Joseph and Victor. A Mass of Christian Burial was held today at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial was in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant House New York, Funding and Development Department, 460 West 41st Street, New York, NY 10036 or to the Potter League For Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
