Portsmouth, RI - Francis J. ?Hank? Harrington, 79, of 358 Water Street, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Fort Myers, FL, died Friday, April 6, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Marian Haskins Borden Harrington. Born in Fall River, MA on November 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank Joseph and Rosalie Brosseau Harrington.Mr. Harrington attended BMC Durfee High School class of 1945 and was inducted into the Durfee Athletic Hilltopper Hall of Fame in 1986. He was known in his high school days at Durfee High as Hank Harrington. He was the 1st string on both champion 1944 and 1945 football and basketball teams and a varsity club member in his junior and senior years.He attended Worcester Academy in Worcester, MA in 1945-1946. Mr. Harrington worked as a warehouse manager in the shipping and receiving department at Crompton and Knowles in East Providence, for many years. Prior to that, he was an oil delivery driver for Pacific Oil. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Robert E. Perry during WWII and was awarded the War Victory Medal. He was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailor Association, RI Chapter and a member of the Portsmouth United Methodist Church, the Portsmouth Portuguese American Club, he was a former member of Fall River Country Club, Pocasset Country Club, and Montaup Country Club and had been an avid golfer in previous years. Hank was a member of the Over the Hill Gang in Fall River and the Elks in Bristol. He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved sharing memories of his days in Fall River. He enjoyed spending time with his childhood friend Frank Quinn and Shirley. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family. Besides his wife he is survived by his sister Mary LeCroix of Coventry, RI, his children, Mark Harrington and his wife Joanne Harrington of Hanover, MA, Paul Harrington and his wife Marlene Harrington, Nancy Weida and her husband Richard Weida and John Borden and his wife Susan Borden all of Portsmouth, RI, his grandchildren Jason Weida and Kristen Weida Smith and Eric Smith, Matthew and Leah Harrington, Bennett and Dean Harrington, and nine nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Harrington. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass at 10:00 am in Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007, from 4-8 in the Connors Funeral Home.
