Francis J. Silveira

Portsmouth, RI - Francis J. Silveira, 92, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, RI.He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Silvia) Silveira.Born in Newport, RI on September 4, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Dutra) Silveira.Mr. Silveira served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in Newport, RI. Francis was a member and Past Master of the Portsmouth Grange, Newport County Pomona and the Rhode Island State Grange. He also held the office of Treasurer of the National Grange. He was an avid stamp collector and a member of the Stamp Club in Fall River. He also operated the "Little Four Bowling Alley", which was located on Thames Street in Newport, RI for a number of years. Francis enjoyed music and would play the guitar and ukulele as well as other instruments.
