Portsmouth, RI - Francis John "Sticks" Winthrop, 69, of Portsmouth died Monday, February 25, 2013 surrounded by his family at Warren Skilled Nursing Center of Warren, RI. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Chandler) Winthrop.Born on September 20, 1943 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Dorothy (Cawley) Winthrop. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator at Raytheon for nearly 50 years. He was also a member of the Rhode Island National Guard. Sticks, was an avid reader and Pats fan. Besides his wife of 43 years, he is survived by his son Russell Winthrop of Portsmouth, RI, his father-in-law Russell Chandler of Portsmouth, RI, his brother Paul Winthrop and his wife Loraine of Newport, RI, and his sisters, Deborah Bulk and her husband Robert and Mary Monis of Middletown, RI and his brother-in-laws, Francis Pine, Richard Bulk. He was the brother of the late Eileen P. Bulk, Jane Klassner and Ann Pine and the late brother-in-law of Albert Monis and William Klassner. Calling hours will be held on, Monday, March 4, 2013, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 8am from the Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9am in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway, Newport. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Three Angels Fund, PO Box 4001, Middletown, RI 02842.
