Cumberland, RI - Frank F. Ferrara, 87, of Cumberland, RI, died Monday, December 19, 2011.He was the devoted husband of the late Ann Struzziery Ferrara. Born in Boston, MA he was the son of the late Nicholas and Nellie Tusa Ferrara. Frank was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, stationed in Italy, France and England with the Department of the OSS. He was recruited by OSS Office of Strategic Services, as he could speak Italian and French besides English. Frank was a Morse code radio operator when stationed in France and parachute jumped eight times during the war and was awarded the Bronze Star, E AME Theater Campaign Ribbon with 2 Battle stars. He left the military at the age of 20, as a Corporal and pursed his education, thanks to the GI Bill. Frank graduated from Northeastern University, with a BS in Engineering and then later with a Masters in engineering, while working days and going to night school. He was determined to get his education. He retired from Boston Edison, where he worked his way up to the Superintendent, and was employed there for over 42 years. He leaves behind his son John Ferrara and his wife Maryellen of Jamestown, RI and granddaughters Sarah and Ellen-Marie, his son Matthew Ferrara and his wife Christine of Florida. He was the loving father of the late Donna Ferrara Hull of Jamestown, RI. He also will be missed by many nieces and nephews who looked up to their Uncle Frank. His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at 10:00 am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown.Burial with military honors will be at 1pm in St. Michaels Cemetery, Roslindale, MA Donations in his memory may me made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
