Middletown, RI - Frank Silvia Moniz, 91, of 124 Ellery Avenue, Middletown, RI, formerly of 27 Fenner Avenue, Newport, RI, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.He was the husband of Rose Dorothy Marshall Moniz. Born in Middletown, RI on September 23, 1918, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Mary Mederios Silvia.Mr. Moniz served in the United States Army, during World War II. He received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Moniz worked at Viti Brothers and Ford Motor Company reconditioning cars, and he also worked at Boulevard Nurseries. He was a member of the D.A.V. Besides his wife of 69 years, he is survived by his sons Frank S Moniz Jr. and his wife Bernadette of Kerrville, TX, Raymond A Moniz and his wife Gayle of South Sandwich, MA and Peter J Moniz and his wife Corlis of Mendon, MA, his sisters Mary Leydon of Middletown, RI, Flora Bosare of Boxford, MA and Gloria Silvia of Newport, RI, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Anthony Moniz, Manuel Mike Silvia, Jesse Silvia and Rose Rosa. His funeral will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 11:00a.m., in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009, from 2-5, in the funeral home.
