PORTSMOUTH, RI - Frank W. Ottilige, Jr., Ret. US Army Major, 67, of Canonchet Drive, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Middletown, RI, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Sadako Yogi Ottilige. Born in Newport, RI on May 2, 1938, he was the son of the late Frank W. Ottilige Sr. and Laura Pedersen Ottilige. Mr. Ottilige served 20 years on active duty in the US Army in the 1st and 5th Group Special Forces, the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division. During his military career, he served two tours in Vietnam and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Ft. Benning, Ga, Ft. Campbell, KY and Ft. Bragg, NC. Mr. Ottilige was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with ?V? Device, the Vietnamese Valentry Cross with Bronze Star, the Special Forces and Ranger Tabs, the Master Parachutist Badge and the Combat Infantrymans Badge. After retiring from the US Army in 1977, Frank also worked for Derektor Shipyard, Jamestown Distributors as Operations Manager and Chaves Gardens. He was a graduate of Rogers High School, Class of 1956 and attended Northeastern University. Mr. Ottilige served on the Portsmouth Glen Farm Study Group from 1995 to 1996, the Glen Farm Authority from 1996 to 2001, the Portsmouth Charter Review Committee from 2003 to 2004 and was a Portsmouth Town Council candidate in 2002 and 2004. He was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed maintaining his garden and spending time with his family. Besides his wife of 44 years, he is survived by a son U.S. Army Maj. Donald Ottilige of Ft. Bragg, NC, his daughter Patricia Ottilige of Portsmouth, RI, his granddaughter Amber S. Ottilige and his daughter in-law Jodie Ottilige of Ft. Bragg, NC. His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 10:00AM, in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial with Military Honors will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 1, 2005, from 4-8pm in the funeral home.
