Portsmouth, RI - Frederick Anthony Palkovic, 87, formerly of Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at St. Clare Home in Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Margaret Katherine (McCarthy) Palkovic.Born in Newburgh, NY on September 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Gertrude (Ozabal) Palkovic.Mr. Palkovic served in the United States Navy during WWII, Korea and Vietnam retiring in 1965 as a Chief Postal Clerk with 19 years of service. Following his military career, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed many years of retirement playing golf at Green Valley Country Club. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and kept in touch with many friends including his oldest friend of eighty years, George Whalen and his wife Estelle of New York, longtime friends Larry and Jane Rousseau of Portsmouth, RI, Arthur and Marie Paiva of Middletown, RI and Carolyn Aiani and the late Ken Aiani of Staten Island, NY. Mr. Palkovic was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth, a member of the Portsmouth Knights of Columbus, the Fleet Reserve Association, the V.F.W. and the Navy Cruiser Association of Rehoboth, MA. He is survived by his children, Frederick A Palkovic II and his wife Carmel of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael W Palkovic and his wife Kathleen of Villa Park, CA, Matthew J Palkovic and his wife Cathleen of Middletown, RI and Margaret Jane Joyce and her husband Daniel of Mansfield, MA and eight grandchildren, Beth, Dan, Drew, Kevin, Emily, David, Steven and John. He was the brother of the late Wilhelmina Kenny and Elizabeth Palkovic.At the request of the family, calling hours are omitted.A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 9 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Inurnment will follow in Trinity Cemetery, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bailey's Team for Autism, 164 Westside Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 or to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
