Frederick C.B. Smyth, Jr. 57, of 26 Friendship Street, Jamestown, RI, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 4, 2010 surrounded by his loving daughter and family. Born in Newport, RI on December 14, 1952, he was the son of the late Norma Whaley and Frederick C.B. Smyth, Sr.Fred was a 1971 graduate of Rogers High School and went on to receive his Business Degree from Johnson and Wales. He was a life time resident of Jamestown. Fred was an avid boater and loved spending time on the water. He spent many years in the Bahamas as a USCG Captain and once he stepped landside, he opened a waterski school in Key Largo, FL named Ski Largo the 1970s. He returned to Jamestown in 1982 were he worked for the Jamestown Housing Authority for several years. Upon his return, he dedicated much of his time to his family and the restoration of his family home. Presently, Fred was employed by the state working at the University of Rhode Island.Fred leaves his daughter Sarah Smyth of Jamestown, RI. He is also survived by his two sisters Barbara Whitaker and her husband Mel of Jamestown, and Susan Smyth of Newport. He was the uncle of Melanie Whitaker, Kristin Gouveia, Megan Jones and great uncle of Kelsey Gouveia, Rileigh Gouveia, Aidan Jones and Ethan Jones. He leaves behind his special Granddog Nala as well as several uncles and cousins. His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 8 at 10:00am in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, RI. Burial will follow in Cedar Cemetery, Jamestown.
