Middletown, - LCDR. Frederick W. Reynolds USN Ret., 82, of 23 Sherwood Road, Middletown, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Juliette A. Nash Reynolds. Born in Fairhaven, MA, on September 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Frederick and Ina Murray Reynolds. He attended Fairhaven High School in Fairhaven MA and entered the US Navy at the beginning of World War II. LCDR Reynolds served in the US Navy for 30 years. He rose through the ranks from a seaman to LCDR and retired in 1970. He was stationed onboard many US Navy vessels among those were the USS Vincennes CA-44 and the USS Santa Fe CL-60, the Orion, Salenan, and the Missisenewa. He had been the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He had traveled throughout the world while serving in the Navy. After his retirement from the service, he received his Bachelors degree from Salve Regina University in Newport RI. He had also been an active volunteer after retirement including several years at the Newport Naval Hospital pharmacy. LCDR Reynolds was a member of the VFW in Newport. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter Michelle Sheehan of Summerville, SC, two sons Shawn T. Reynolds of Middletown, RI and Frederick W. Reynolds III of Westerly, RI, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at 1:00 PM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, Rhode Island. Burial will be at a later date in Pittsfield, Mass.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 298 West Exchange Street, Providence, RI 02903.
