Fredric Everett Mack, age 67, of 12 Wood Road, Middletown, died Sunday (February 8, 2015) at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. Born in New Britain, Connecticut, he graduated from Union College in Kentucky with bachelor's degrees in physics and math, and from The George Washington University in Washington D.C. with master's degrees in business administration and math. He settled in Middletown in 1975.He was a nuclear test engineer, specializing in submarine equipment and technology. He worked for several companies prior to his retirement from SEA CORP in 2009. He also enjoyed helping people while working as a tax preparer at HR Block for the past 25 years."Ric" loved to travel and spend time with his family. He also proudly continued his father's legacy of donating blood every chance he got, receiving an honor for donating more than ten life-saving gallons. Throughout his life he maintained his Episcopalian faith. He understood that change is inevitable, but growth is optional, and always strove to improve himself and the lives of those he loved. He always made it a priority to let those he loved know it, and never failed to provide advice, a kind word or a helping hand, without ever expecting anything in return.Surviving are his wife, Debra (Fray) Mack; his father, Everett W. Mack; his sister, Darlene Wood and her husband Larry Wood; his daughter, Elizabeth Mack and her partner Marc Moson; his son, David Mack and daughter-in-law Salua Baida; his step-daughter Angela Manchester; his step-son Robert Virgadamo; his four grandchildren, Hayden Manchester, and Brendan, Jaysin, and Montana Virgadamo; and his niece, Lynn Lim, and his nephew, Darral Aquino, and their children.A memorial to celebrate his life will be held this Saturday (February 14) at 2 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Newport. Additionally, on the anniversary of his birth, his family and friends will gather to spread his ashes.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Rhode Island Blood Center or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.A line from Ric's favorite poem, " . . .
