G. Dale Cunningham

Portsmouth, RI - G. Dale Cunningham, 86, of Jepson Lane, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Margery L. McLeod Cunningham for 40 years. Born in Benton, AR on August 18, 1923, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Opal Westerman Cunningham.Mr. Cunningham served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Sterett in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during World War II. He was employed at the Newport Creamery, Inc. for 39 years, 25 of which were as the Director of Maintenance. He was a member of the North End Club, the Newport Saltwater Fishing Club and the Ocean State Orchid Society along with his wife, Marge. He truly enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and feeding the birds and squirrels.Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Darline Pinheiro and her husband Richard of Cape Coral, FL, his grandchildren, Suzanne Humphries and her husband Kevin and their children, Kyle and Kaylie Humphries of Cape Coral, FL, David Pinheiro and his wife Tonya and their children, David A. and Athena Pinheiro of Cape Coral, FL and Dale Pinheiro and his wife Michelle and their children, Samantha and Derek Clark of North Fort Myers, FL; and his sisters, Myrtle Bacon and her children of El Cahon, CA and Barbara Nash and her husband James and their children of Fort Mohave, AZ.He was the brother of the late David Cunningham, Dwight Cunningham and Jarvis Cunningham. His funeral will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 11:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial with military honors will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 4-6 in the Memorial Funeral Home.Donations may be made to Norman Bird Sanctuary, 583 Third Beach Road, Middletown, RI 02842
