NEWPORT, RI ? G. Ruth Westall, 85, of 10 Leonard Terrace, a lifelong resident of Newport, RI, died Tuesday morning August 16, 2005, in her beloved home. Born on February 25, 1920 in Newport, RI, She was the loving and devoted only daughter of the late William B. and Gladys Borden Westall. A 1937 graudate of Rogers High School and a 1941 graduate of Bryant College, where she received her Business Education degree, Ruth touched several generations of Newports children, in her role as a teacher in the Business Department and as an outstanding guidance counselor, for over 38 years. As befitting her selfless soul, she retired early to take care of her mother. She was a former member of the Mosaic Club, the Rhode Island Retired Teachers Association, the Newport County Retired Teachers Association and the Newport Preservation Society. Ruth was an active member of St. George?s Episcopal Church in Newport and was a loyal member of the church?s weekly Anasazi group. Ruth found the greatest joy in spending time with or talking over the phone to her family, friends-new and life-long, and in narrating the history of Newport as she accompanied many on the tour of the ?Ocean Drive?, radiating her joy and enthusiasm as if she was seeing it for the first time. Her warmth, pride, elegance, intelligence, joy and generous spirit will be forever missed. May God bless her beautiful soul. She is survived by her second cousins Douglass A. Lowe, Richard J. Lowe, Russell T. Lowe, Jr. and several other cousins. Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 19, 2005, at 11:00 AM in St. Georges Episcopal Church, 14 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport.
