Garland Glee Roper

Garland Glee (Walker) Roper, 82, of Newport, RI, formerly of Portsmouth, RI and Mississippi, died peacefully on Saturday March 7, 2015 in the loving care of Heatherwood Nursing Home in Newport and Gentiva Hospice Care.She was the wife of the late Bobby Neal Roper.Garland was born in Corvallis, Oregon on March 16, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Donald Nathan Walker and Hazel Belle (Jenkins) Walker and sister of the late Waynard J. Walker. She was the devoted and beloved mother of 8 children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides being with her family, her interests included animals, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was also an avid reader.She is survived by her children, Joyce and Gary Bouchard of Rutland Vermont, Mona Benard of Middletown Rhode Island, Lindell and Celina Roper of Oak Hill West Virginia, Susan Ramey of Newport Rhode Island, Michael Roper of Middletown Rhode Island, Robert and Dawn Roper of Petal Mississippi and Chastity Ayers of Gastonia North Carolina. She is predeceased by her son Donald Neal Roper.At Garland's own request, her funeral services are private.
