Calais, ME - Gary Ray Urquhart, 80, of Calais, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI, Born in Bangor, Maine on January 21, 1933, he was the son of William and Zelma (Dinsmore) Urquhart, and grew up in Eastport, Maine. After graduating from High School in 1951 he enlisted in the US Navy. During his career, he served on several destroyers as well as the aircraft carrier USS Wasp, including one tour in Vietnam in 1969. His career continued with three assignments in Newport as well as Quonset Point, RI, Brunswick, Maine and Virginia. Mr. Urquhart retired from the Navy after 22 years in 1973. He returned to school for additional training and soon took a position with the State of Maine. Gary worked another 20 years for the state, retiring in 1996 as a Supervisor in the local Human Resources office. For many years he was an active volunteer at the Calais Food Pantry. He and his wife both attended the Second Baptist Church in Calais. Gary enjoyed a good game of cards with friends, but most of all he loved his home and time with his wife and family. Besides his wife Mary K. (Huntley) Urquhart, he is survived by his two daughters Debra Viera of Newport, RI, and Diane Finnegan and her husband Scott of Bear, DE, and his son Dennis Urquhart of Calais, ME. He also leaves a sister Lorraine Olson and her husband Robert of Nantucket, MA, two brothers William Urquhart and his wife Lou of Eastport, ME and Horace Lyon and his wife Sandra of Cooper, ME. He also is survived by 4 grandchildren Shanon Fraser, Sara Viera, Jessica Day, and Eryn Finnegan, and 5 great grandchildren Alysia Fraser, Cayden Marks, Everett Marks, Lily Day and Hunter Day.He was preceded in death by his son Robert Urquhart, his brother George Lyon and an infant grandson Christopher Urquhart.His funeral services will be private.Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer's Research Clinic at Newport Hospital, 19 Friendship Street, Newport, RI
