Genevieve Putnam Eaton

Genevieve Putnam Eaton, 84, of 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI, died peacefully on February 27, 2010 at Village House Nursing Home. Born in New York City, on May 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Sherbourne and Genevieve Sibley Eaton.She was a graduate of the Cadet Nursing Program at Adelphi College and held a Masters Degree from Columbia University Teachers College. Ms. Eaton was a school nurse and teacher in Plainview Old Bethpage School District in New York until her retirement in 1985. Throughout her career she also worked for NYC Public Health Department helping to administer vaccinations. She was also on the governors commission that sought to integrate special needs children into the public school classroom. Ms. Eaton was an active member of AFT teachers union. She dedicated her life to her family and caring for others, especially children. She is survived by her daughter Genvieve Dora Eaton of Newport, RI, her adopted son Brian Mulholland of Newport, RI, her nephews Charles Christopher Eaton of Westford, MA, Bradford Bishop Eaton of Groton, MA, and Scott Harrison Eaton of Wolfboro, NH as well as five great nephews.She was the sister of the late Charles Sherbourne Eaton.
