Tiverton, RI - Geoffrey Edward Almeida, 60, of 225 Stone Church Road, Tiverton, RI, died on February 13, 2011.He was the husband of Catherine Devitt for 28 years. Born in Lowell, MA on July 7, 1950, he was the son of Dorothy Countouritious Almeida and the late Edward Almeida.Geoffrey grew up in Chelmsford, MA and fell in love with the ocean at an early age. His pride and joy was Guardian Duck; a self-built 41-foot, two-ton, Ted Hood design sailboat.As he began his career, married, and raised his family, his connection to sailing remained a constant. He lived in Newburyport, Marblehead and Salem, Mass over the years. He owned and operated Boatworks, a marine electronics and another business venture, C.P. Devitt. Ultimately, he was honored to become a teacher at the International Yacht Restoration School, where he was able to share his skills and knowledge of boat mechanical and electrical system.In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Catherine Devitt of Tiverton, RI , two daughters Corrinne Almeida of New Orleans, LA, and Dannielle Almeida of Tiverton, RI, a son Nathaniel Almeida of Tiverton, RI, a brother Garrett Almeida of Florida, and two sisters Gina OConnor of Dracut, MA, and Gayle Almeida-Hage of California. A Memorial service, in celebration of his life, will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 1:00PM in the Seamans Church Institute, Newport, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Geoffrey E. Almeida Memorial System Scholarship at the International Yacht Restoration School.
