George Botelho, 72, of Portsmouth passed away peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2016 after an extended illness at St. Clare Home in Newport, RI. He was the husband of Rosemary (Pimentel) Botelho for 41 years.Born on January 16, 1944 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Manuel and Agnes (Amaral) Botelho. He was a lifelong resident of Aquidneck Island, born in Middletown in 1944. He graduated from Middletown High School, served in the Navy as a radioman in the Vietnam War. He worked for Verizon retiring after 36 years, as a central office switchman. He loved collecting antique wrist watches, walking his beloved Airedal, Quigley, and eating out. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his nephew Jack.Besides his wife who was his constant companion and strongest supporter, he leaves his son Michael and his wife Ashley, who brought him the lights of his life: Kaleigh Elizabeth and Lucas Justin, his grandchildren. He also leaves his daughter Kathryn, J. Scott, and his son Owen. His brother Manuel Botelho of Middletown, RI and his sisters Agnes Pinto of Middletown and Almorinda Demko of Bethlehem, PA. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.He was the brother of the late Margaret Warner, Alice Roderick, Arthur Botelho and Frank Botelho. George enjoyed watches please wear your favorite in his honor. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016, from 4-7pm, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.His funeral will be held on Friday February 5, 2016 at 10a, from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Elizabeth, 577 Wood Street, Bristol, RI.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
