Newport, RI - George Curtis Stafford, 86, of 160 Franklin Street, Bristol formerly of Newport, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Paschoal Stafford. Born at home in Portsmouth, RI on October 7, 1918, he was the son of the late George C. and Lydia Monroe Stafford. Mr. Stafford was an auto and diesel mechanic by trade. He worked for many years at Harrison Ford, Mello Construction and many other area garages. He also worked for the Newport Housing Authority and spent several years working on the construction of the Newport Bridge. A handyman, he could fix anything and was always willing to help out a friend. Mr. Stafford was also an avid fisherman; he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by seven daughters Joanne Quinn of Springfield, NH, Dianne Corey of Portsmouth, RI, Susanne Krause of Bristol, RI, Rolanne Stafford of Portland, OR, Maryanne Donato of Bristol, RI, Terrianne Brennan of Framingham, MA, and Krisanne Joyce of Stoughton, MA, and seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his three brothers: Burton Stafford of Greensboro; NC, Ellwood Stafford of Burlington, MA; Alvin Bliven of Middletown, RI ; and one sister Barbara Spence of Elizabeth City, NC. He is preceded in death by a brother William Stafford and a sister Janice Stafford . A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2004, at 11:00 AM in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
