Portsmouth, RI - George D. Goodreau, USNL Lt. Commander 95, of Portsmouth, RI died peacefully at home on August 31, 2011 surrounded by family and loved ones.He was predeceased by his wife Annie May Williams Goodreau in 1997, as well as two sisters, Florence Silverman and Vivian Colangelo. Born in Warren, RI on July 26, 1916, he was the son of the late George J. and Leah Dufrense Goodreau.He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and for 20 years as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy League then continued to serve as Liaison Officer in the US Sea Cadet Corps well after retirement. He also worked for over 20 years as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Barrington, RI. He is survived by his daughters, Beth A Smith of Portsmouth, RI and Donna Mitchell ofWarwick, RI, as well as six grandchildren, Laurie Moulton and Jennifer Carchia of Warwick, Aimee Carvara of Portsmouth and Adam Carvara of Tiverton, Raymond Mitchell of Claremont, NH and Jonathan Mitchell of Warwick, he is also survived by ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.A burial service will be held on September 10, 2011 in Newport Memorial Park, Howland and Vaucluse Avenue, Middletown at 10:00AM.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Hospice/VNS services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1185 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Portsmouth Volunteer Rescue Fund, PO Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
