George E. Peck, 87, of 370 Highland Road Tiverton, died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at St. Annes Hospital Fall River, MA.He was the husband of the late Clarissa J. Hodgson Peck who died in 1996. Born in Waterbury, CT on July 1, 1917, he was the son of the late Charles and Harriet F. Polford Peck. Mr. Peck was a direct descendant of Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom?s Cabin.Mr. Peck was a Naval Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam where he served aboard the U.S.S. Gwinn. Through his service he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served in the Atlantic Patrol and the Doolittle Raid on April 18, 1942 with task force #16. Mr. Peck had also served in the Battle of Guadalcanal where he was with Anti-U-Boat Warfare where he had credit for sinking four submarines. He taught for the US Navy in underwater weapontry for five years. Mr. Peck then worked for Ciba Geigy after WWII for two years. He was a member of the America St. Johns Lodge #8 out of Stratford, Connecticut, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Silvia Post, Tiverton, Rhode Island, The National Association of Uniform Services, Life Member of Guadalcanal Veterans, the Sierra Club, and The National Parks Conservation. Mr. Peck was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Church in Tiverton. He is survived by three nieces Barbara Walters Duncan, Cathy Peck and Joyce Wilson and one nephew Leroy Ekberg.He is preceded in death by his brother Lloyd Charles Peck and four sisters Charlotte Peck Dews, Helen Peck Casey, Florence Peck Walters and Laura Eckberg.His funeral will be held Friday March 11, at 10:00am with in Holy Trinity Church 1956 Main Road, Tiverton, RI. Burial will be in Pocassett Hill Cemetery in Tiverton.
