George Elmer Keckler, Jr

George Elmer Keckler, Jr., 81, of Barton Lane, Middletown, RI and formerly of Beechview Terrace, Middletown, RI, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Dorothy "Dodi" (Gonos) Keckler, who were married on July 9, 1955.Born in Newport, RI on November 28, 1931, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Tormey) Keckler and was the older brother to the late William and Robert Keckler.After graduating De La Salle in Newport, he entered the US Air Force in 1950 serving 14 years. In 1964, he left the Air Force and joined the US Army serving two tours in Vietnam and retired from Fort Belvoir, VA in 1971 as a Sergeant First Class. Mr. Keckler was a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force and served in the Intelligence field within the Army. He has resided in Middletown since then.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son George and daughter Kym.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 9-11 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI with a service in the funeral home at 11 am.
