George F Curren

George F. Curren, 83, of Indian Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, RI. George was born on October 19, 1921 to George J. Curren and Carina Adams Curren, in Cambridge MA. He attended Boston College High School and Boston College, where he graduated in 1943. He worked for Northeast Airlines in Boston for several years as a flight superintendent. There he met his future wife Elisabeth Neser and they were married in Burlington VT on August 11, 1947. They settled first in Somerville MA and then Melrose MA, where their 3 sons attended school. An avid linguist, he served for a time as a teacher in the Latin Department at Malden High School.In 1979 he and his wife moved to Plymouth, New Hampshire where she was employed at The New Hampton School. In retirement Elisabeth and her husband moved to Hendersonville North Carolina, Great Barrington, Mass. and Portsmouth, RI.George leaves 3 sons Thomas Curren of Danbury NH, Christopher Curren of Jamestown RI, and Michael Curren of Reading MA. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Molly Curren of Somerville MA, Timothy Curren of Reading MA, Becca Curren of Danbury, NH, Maura Curren and Brenna Curren of Reading, MA.Calling hours will be Thursday, April 21, from 3-5pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 22 at 10:00am in St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 179 Summer Street Somerville, Mass. Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Boston College Alumni Fund, Boston College Development Office, More Hall 220, 140 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.
