George F. Warch, Jr., 69, of Aquidneck Drive, Middletown, RI, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Sherrill (Proctor) Warch who will have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary next month.Born in Baltimore, MD on December 3, 1944, he was the son of the late George F. Warch, Sr. and Mary Agnes (Dwyer) Warch.Mr. Warch was a 22 year member of the US Navy retiring in 1985 as a Senior Chief Yeoman. Serving on various ships, he was a member of the staff of the Commander of the Sixth Fleet in Gaeta, Italy. Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Personnel Manager at the Newport Naval Hospital from 1986 until 1993. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was currently the President of the Rhode Island Prime Timers. George enjoyed fishing, searching for light houses and spending time with his grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John Warch of Dillingham, AK and Kathleen Warch of Ocala, FL; his family and friends, his grandchildren, Matthew and Alex Warch of Middletown, RI, Adam Warch of Ocala, FL, Nayla, Patrick and Arieanna Warch of Dillingham, AK, and Jillian Frost of Corpus Christie, TX; his niece Karen Paul of Lima, OH, several nephews and cousins; his sister-in-law, Betty Warch of Glen Burnie, MD; his brothers-in-law, Richard and Spencer Proctor of Baltimore, MD; and his dear friends, Stephen Bodwell and John Lyba. He was the brother of the late John Warch and Janet Brown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2-5 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10 am in Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham Street, Newport, RI.Burial with Military Honors will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.wounded warriorproject.org).
