George Joseph Mello

Portsmouth, RI - George Joseph Mello, 80, of 97 Martens Road, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Beacon Street, Middletown, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Frances Bernhardt Mello. Born in Portsmouth, RI on August 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Manuel T. and Eva Perry Mello. Mr. Mello was a self employed contractor for over 40 years retiring in 1998 and was a member of the Antique Truck Historical Society. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, George J. Mello Jr., of West Kingston, RI, Raymond C. Mello of Portsmouth, RI, Peter A. Mello of Providence, RI, and Christine A. Deacon of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers Manuel Mello, Frank P. Mello and John R. Mello all of Middletown, RI, his sisters Mary Silvia and Eva B. Lopes both of Portsmouth, RI, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2006, at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
