George L. Schmitt

GEORGE L. SCHMITT, 75, of Addy Drive, Bristol, RI, formerly of Newport, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, November 7, 2010.Born in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late George L. and Elizabeth L. Shea Schmitt.Mr. Schmitt was employed by Sears Department Store, formerly in Newport and Middletown, RI, for 38 years. He was a longtime member of the Newport Rifle Club. As a licensed radio operator going by the call-sign N1MOA, he was a member of A.R.R.L. Amateur Radio Relay League.He is survived by his children, George E. Schmitt of Providence, RI and Aimee Weaver of Bristol, RI; his sister, Claire Sheehan of Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren, Michael, Bradley and George Weaver; two nephews, Thomas and Robert; and two nieces, Beth and Cathy. He was the brother of the late Leonard Schmitt.His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 10 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway.Burial will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:00am in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown, RI.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
