Tiverton, RI - George R. Boyd, 80, of 50 Lark Lane, Tiverton, RI, formerly of 1 Winthrop Drive, Middletown, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at home.He was the husband of Mary Sherbush Boyd. Born in Newport, RI on January 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Mary Lutz Boyd.George grew up in Newport and graduated from De laSalle Academy in 1949. He also served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked for over 30 years at the Newport Navy Base Supply Depot as a mechanic and was a supervisor of contracts for the US government in Newport. He used his skills for additional work at Avis Car Rental and after retirement, for Salve Regina University in the maintenance department. George also worked as a school bus driver in Middletown and Portsmouth. George and his wife Mary were married in St. Josephs church in Newport over 56 years ago. They were longtime members of St. Lucys Church in Middletown, and St. Anthony Church in Portsmouth, and more recently at St. Theresas Church in Tiverton. He was a Jack of All Trades, and helped many of his family and friends with their cars, homes, or projects. He is survived by his wife Mary Boyd of Tiverton, RI, three daughters Sheryl Emerson of Newport, RI, Christina Wordell and Patricia Gerdin of Portsmouth, RI, and six grandchildren Kathleen Emerson, George Wordell, Jonathon Emerson, David Wordell, Kelly Gerdin, and Ian Gerdin. He was the grandfather of the late George Wordell.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2011, from 1:00-3:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.His church service will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at 10:00 am in St. Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Road route 81, Tiverton.
