George William Ganong

MIDDLETOWN, RI - George Ganong, 78, of 16 South Drive, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at home. He was the husband of Helen Sullivan Ganong. Born in Allston, MA, on December 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Otis and Mildred Ford Ganong. Mr. Ganong was a World War II Army Veteran serving as Staff Sargeant. He had been Regional Director of New England Philadelphia Life Insurance Company for 15 years retiring in 1985. Mr. Ganong was a Certified Financial Planner and had also been Regional Manager for Hamilton Mutual Funds for many years in Denver, Colorado. He was a 1951 graduate of Adelphi College, Garden City, N.J.He was a member of the Board of Governors of Newport Hospital, a member of Saint Lucys Church, Middletown and former member of Newport Chamber of Commerce and former Lieutenant Colonel of the Newport Artillery Company. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Helen Ganong of Middletown, RI, a daughter Karen Ganong Fillion of Middletown, RI, a son in law Everett Fillion of Middletown, RI, a brother in Law Richard E. Sheehan of Lincoln, RI, a sister in law Margaret Sheehan of Lincoln, RI, one niece, and six nephews. His funeral will be held Thursday, June 9, 2005 at9:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5-8 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
