Gerald Antonio Velilla

Newport, RI - Gerald Antonio Velilla, 56, of 10 Whitfield Place, Newport, RI, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Trinadad, West Indies, on October 13, 1953, he was the son of Joan A. Phillips Velilla of Newport, RI and the late Jesus Velilla-Valdez.Mr. Velilla attended De La Salle Academy and served in the United States Navy. Gerald was an avid surfer and loved music and traveling. Besides his mother he is survived by his brothers, Peter G. Velilla of Newport, RI and Joseph T. Velilla of Long Island, New York, his sister Ana Maria Velilla of Newport, RI, Angelina B Hewett of Portsmouth, RI, Rosalinda L Velilla of Middletown, RI, Maria T. Anthon of Portsmouth, RI and Victoria M. Howell of Tiverton, RI and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Paul P. Velilla. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010, at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 4-6 in the funeral home.
