TIVERTON, RI - Geraldine V. Camara Leis, 66, of 2 Margaret Street, Tiverton, RI, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of Capt. Alfred C. Leis, USN, Ret. Born in Portsmouth, RI at the Brown House on January 14, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Martin Camara. Geraldine was born and raised on the Glen Farm in Portsmouth, RI. She was involved with a knitting group, and an art and painting group. Geraldine enjoyed gardening and scrapbooking, and was an avid card player. Prior to her retirement she was a supervisor of the Jewelry and Cosmetics departments at the Naval Exchange for several years. Geraldine was very involved in the Brown House Restoration in Portsmouth, RI. Mrs. Leis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Besides her husband of 18 years she is survived by her children Mary Stockard of Portsmouth, RI, and Sharon McEvoy of Norfolk, MA, her sister Mary Lou Lemieux of Portsmouth, RI, her step daughter Jessica Leis of Middletown, RI and her grandchildren Nathaniel Stockard of Portsmouth, RI, Julia McEvoy and Evan McEvoy both of Norfolk, MA. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Case and Barbara E. Atkins and the step mother of the late Alfred C. Leis Jr. Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 1, 2005, at 9:00 am, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
