Middletown, RI - Gertrude Anna Woodhead, 58, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 1st at Newport Hospital after a 2 year courageous battle with cancer. Gert was born in Newport, RI on November 18, 1948, to the late Charles and Gertrude Woodhead.She was a hairdresser for many years and owned her own business, Newport Hair Works Inc., with her dear friend Judy Seale. Her favorite motto was Im a beautician, not a magician. She enjoyed ceramics, fabric dolls and school crafts with her sister Ann. She loved shopping, especially browsing the Christmas Tree Shop. Gert was survived by her daughter and son-in-law Terri and Carlos Medeiros of Middletown with whom she lived and her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Elizabeth Woodhead of Portsmouth and her grandson Christopher.She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Everett Moniz of Portsmouth, and their daughters Denise, Kim and Christine, her brother and sister-in-law Karl and Francine Woodhead of Tiverton and their daughter Karen her sister and brother-in-law Carol and Bill Cookson of Mimbres, New Mexico and her daughter Cindy.She was the sister of the late Charles Woodhead Jr. of Jacksonville, FL.In addition to her family, she will be missed greatly by many of her friends who loved her.A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 6, 2007, at 11:00am, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the RI Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903.
