MIDDLETOWN, RI - Gertrude Edith Francis McMahon, 91, of the Grand Islander Health Care Center, 333 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI, formerly of 12B Coddington Street, Newport, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late James Edward McMahon.Born in Newport, RI, on June 23, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Abigal Bailey Francis.Mrs. McMahon was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her dog Ali. Mrs. McMahon was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Newport. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling. She is survived by two sons James E. McMahon of Sailsville, AR, and Richard M. McMahon of Campton, NH, two daughters Garnett A. Ashley of Exeter, RI, and Sheila A. Somerford of Campton, NH, two brothers William Francis of Middletown, RI, and Donald Francis of Newport, RI, a sister Marion Grenier of Kissimmee, FL, her grandchildren Garnett McMahon, James McMahon, Richard McMahon, Laurel Wolf, Brenda Park, Sandra McMahon, Richard McMahon Jr., Ronald McMahon, Anndee Lynn Rinkel, Heather McMahon, Arthur J. Potts, Kenneth W. Potts, Lisa A. King, Theresa A. Mahoney, William P. Ashley, Mark W. Daniels and Steven A. Daniels, thirty one great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.She was the grandmother of the late Linda McMahon and the sister of the late Walter Francis, Earl Bailey, and Harry Francis.Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 15, 2005, at 10:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a funeral service at 11:00AM, in St. John The Evangelist, 61 Poplar Street, Newport.Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2005, from 5-7 in the funeral home.
