Gertrude G. Long Jenkins Newton Newport, RI - Gertrude G. Long Jenkins Newton, 81, of 14 Hall Avenue, Newport, RI, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born in Culpepper, VA on October 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie Turner Long.Mrs. Newton worked at the Naval Torpedo Station from 1941 to 1945 and then went on to work at the Newport Hosptial for 20 years as a nurse assistant. She was an avid bowler. She is survived by her children, Ronald Jenkins of Chicago, IL, James Jenkins of Rayham, MA, Arthur Jenkins of Rock Hill, SC, and Deborah Edelen of Newport, RI, a step-son William Jenkins of Middletown, RI, fourteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Calvin Jenkins and the sister of the late William Long, Margaret Long and Mamie Long. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at 11:00AM, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the funeral home.
