Gertrude L. Camara

Portsmouth, RI ? Gertrude L. Camara, 72, of 14 Mare Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, September 21, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the loving wife of Lawrence ?Larry? Camara. Born in Newport, RI on June 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Cecelia Medeiros Morris. Gertrude was a lifelong Portsmouth resident and attended Portsmouth schools. She married Larry Camara in 1953 and began raising their family in Portsmouth. After they were grown, she began training to become a certified nursing assistant. She worked at Newport Hospital for nearly 10 years. She then changed careers and joined her husband at Raytheon and worked for another decade there, retiring in 1994. Gertrude was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center and a communicant of St. Anthony?s Church.She is survived by her husband and three children, Michael Camara and his wife Vivian of Tiverton, Richard Camara and his wife Elaine of Avon, Mass, and Cynthia Campbell and her husband Kenneth Jr of Assonet, Mass. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kenneth Campbell III of Florida, Michael Camara Jr of Tiverton, Daniel Camara of New Hampshire, and Kimberly Campbell of Assonet, Mass. She was preceded in death by her sister Sonia Farias. Her funeral services will be held Monday, September 25 at 9:00am from Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Anthonys Church, East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Patrick?s Cemetery, Fall River, Mass. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3-7pm in the funeral home.
