Middletown, RI - Gilbert Joseph Bradfield, 78, of 26 William Drive, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Rose Pampalone Bradfield. Born on ?The Point? in Newport, RI, at 55 Third Street, on April 20, 1927, he was the son of the late John G. and Elizabeth Clinton Bradfield.Mr. Bradfield attended St. Joseph Grammar School in Newport. He was a 1944 graduate of De La Salle Academy where he played on the basketball and football teams. Throughout his youth and after high school he participated in the Newport City Leagues playing on many basketball and softball teams. After his schooling, Mr. Bradfield served in the United States Army during World War II. He served during the end of the war and was a part of the Army occupation of Japan. Upon his return, he graduated from Edgewood Junior College in Barrington, RI. Mr. Bradfield married his wife Rose in September of 1952 in South Orange, NJ, and they lived in Short Hills, NJ for nearly 35 years. He retired as Treasuer and CFO from Unimed, Inc. Mr. Bradfield moved back to Newport after his retirement and started a second career in real estate sales eventually starting his own business, Gilbert J. Bradfield Real Estate. He loved to read and travel, but most of all Gilbert will be remembered by his generosity, thoughtfulness and love for his family. Besides his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his sons Gilbert P. Bradfield of Laramie, WY, Glenn T. Bradfield of Hopkinton, RI, and Gregory J. Bradfield of Middletown, RI, his brothers John Bradfield of Bristol, RI, and William Bradfield of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and five grandchildren, Andrew Bradfield, Alexander Bradfield, Daniel Bradfield, Adam Bradfield and Glenn Bradfield. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Bradfield Longazel, of Raymond, NH. His funeral will be held on Friday, March 10, 2006, at 8:00a.m.from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00a.m. in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on March 9, from 5-8p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.
