Gilda M. Combra

Gilda M. Combra, 92, formerly of Middle Road, Portsmouth, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Village House Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Newport.She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Combra. They had been married for 53 years. Born in Bristol, RI on April 2, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Antone and Mary Duponte Medeiros.For many years, Gilda had worked along side her husband potato farming in Portsmouth. She had also worked as a private aide and housekeeper for a local family in Portsmouth. She was a very talented cook and homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family.She is survived by her children, Lillian C. Lopes of Portsmouth, RI, Norman J. Combra of Tiverton, RI and Russell E. Combra of Portsmouth, RI; five grandchildren, Mary Jane Hladick, Joseph Lopes, Norman Combra, Jr., Andrew Combra and Brian Combra; four great-grandchildren, Connor Hladick, Emma Jane Hladick, Joseph Lopes III and Jonathan Lopes. She was the sister of the late Mary Medeiros, Albertina Sousa, Esther Medeiros and Dennis Medeiros. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 9 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.Visiting hours will be Tuesday, May 1, 2007 from 4-7 pm in Connors Funeral Home.
