Gladys Estelle Martin

Middletown, - Gladys Estelle Martin, 97, of 193 Forest Avenue Middletown, formerly of 3D Pond Avenue, Newport, RI, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Forest Farm Health Care Center Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late John Joseph Martin. Born in Newport, RI on May 31, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Zachariah and Estelle Bliven ONeill. Mrs. Martin worked for Goodwill Cleaners for over thirty years as a Laundry Presser. She had also worked on the Newport Navy Base retiring in 1971. She was a member of Emmanuel Church, Newport, the Martin Luther King Center, The Salvation Army and the Point Street Hummers. She enjoyed bowling. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Burns of Newport, RI, her son Richard G. Martin of Middletown, RI, her grandson David Burns and her two granddaughters Lynn Taylor and Lori Anderson and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Martin was the mother of the late John J. Martin Jr. and sister of the late Evelyn Hudson.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at 11:00 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Island Annex Cemetery in Newport.
