Gloria Ann Medeiros

Newport, RI - Gloria Ann Medeiros, 92, of 12A Coddington Street, Newport, RI, died peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. Born in Portsmouth, RI on April 9, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Pacheco Moniz.Gloria was a lifelong Newport resident. She worked for a short time at the Naval Torpedo Station during WWII. Most of her working career was in dry cleaners, for both Egans Laundry and Goodwill Cleaners. After her working career, she volunteered as a grandmother in the Newport Multi Purpose Center, helping care for young children. As warm and loving Nana, she took pride in her cooking and caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gloria also loved to search through the vintage and thrift stores looking for a good find. She is survived by a son John Medeiros of Portsmouth, and four daughters Barbara Risso of Middletown, Cynthia Konchar of Portsmouth, Gloria Albro of Newport, and Georgianna Medeiros of Newport, and three sisters Evelyn Santos of Middletown, Olive Escobar and Ethel Crotteau both of Newport. She is survived by 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She is preceded in death by a son Joseph Jesse Medeiros and several brothers and sisters.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.Burial will take place in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Activity Fund, 333 Green End Ave, Middletown, RI 02842.
