Gloria Jaclyn (Doolittle) Gamon, 87, of Portsmouth died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Newport Hospital.Gloria was born in Torrington, CT, on October 12, 1925, one of four children of the late Merton and Louva (Mack) Doolittle. Gloria was predeceased by her husband Thomas A. Gamon formally of New Haven, CT. Gloria was a graduate of Yale School of nursing. As a registered nurse she worked as an ER nurse at Rhode Island Hospital and she was the supervisor of nurses at the Howard Institute of Mental Health Cranston, RI. Gloria and her husband Tom were the original owners of the Marina Pub and Brick Alley Pub in Newport RI. Always great supporters of their childrens interest, Gloria and Tom were founding members of the Rhode Island Kids Wrestling Federation and Donors to the State Ballet of Rhode Island. Gloria tirelessly drove from little league to ballet class to wrestling matches to encourage individuality in her children.Gloria is survived by six children, Deborah Luther and her husband Francis, Thomas A. Gamon Jr. and his wife Alice and Ronald S. Gamon and his wife Alison all of Bristol, RI, Gregory K. Gamon and his wife Denise of Jamestown, RI, Suzanne DelVecchio and her husband James of North Kingston, RI, and Valerie Robertson and her husband Dr. Chris Robertson of Norwell, MA, fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Calling hours will be held on, Saturday, January 12, 2013, from 1:00-5:00pm, in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. A prayer service will be held at 4:30pm in the funeral home.
