Gloria M. CollierATLANTA, GA - Gloria M. (Andrews) Collier, 79, formerly of, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Atlanta, GA, comforted by her loving family. Born in Newport, RI on March 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Norman Parlock and Cornelia Norvida (Andrews) Collier She was also the granddaughter of the late Cornelius "Sheely" Andrews. Gloria graduated from Rogers High School, Newport, RI in 1953. She satisfied her zest for learning by taking several continuing education classes. She worked at Transcom Electronics in Middletown, RI, rising to the position of Supervising Manager, at a time when leadership positions in the industry were largely reserved for men. Gloria retired from Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties in 2008, and then relocated to College Park, GA. Gloria was known as a spirited and feisty personality amongst her family and friends, whom she loved dearly. She was a member of Community Baptist Church and the Eastern Star, Queen Esther Chapter #2, in Newport, RI. While Gloria's heart was always in Newport she adapted to her new home in Georgia. She was an active member of her community and established many new heart-felt friendships. Gloria was especially proud of her involvement with and graduation from the Fulton County Citizens Police Academy in 2013. Her neighbors could always count on her to keep a "watchful eye" in the community. Her loving memory will long be cherished by her children, Brenda Collier-Brown (Dennis) of College Park, GA, Ernest Collier III (Gwendolyn) of Philadelphia, PA, the late Phyllis C. Collier, Robert T. Collier and Toni D. Collier of College Park, GA; her brother William Jenkins (Mary) of Newport, RI; her grandchildren Ernest Collier IV (Stefanie) of Great Mills, MD, Dennis Brown Collier (Stacey) of College Park, GA, Christopher M. Collier (Leah), Dejon Lewis, Latona English and Shakeena English all of Philadelphia, PA, and Maxwell Coffee Collier of College Park, GA; her great-grandson Camron Collier, Great Mills, MD; and numerous other family members and friends. She was the sister of the late Phyllis A. (Andrews) Dobbins and Beatrice (Andrews) Winters.
