Major Gordon Feid, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, 88, of 400 Sea Meadow Drive, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at his daughters home in Contoocook, NH. He was the husband of the late Lucille O. Gagne Feid, they were married for sixty-five years.Born in North Attleboro, MA on March 31, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Kelley Feid.He retired from active duty in the Marines in 1962 after twenty years, having seen combat in the Central Pacific in WWII and Korea from 1950 to 1951. Along with his many decorations and citations, he holds the Distinguished Flying Cross. During his second tour in Korea he was an advisor to the Korean Ministry of Defense.Following his military service he was an executive with the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurnance Company for twenty two years before retiring in 1984.Canton, MA was his home for many years where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee; president of the Canton Rotary Club and a member of the Canton American Legion. He was a military aide to former Massachusetts Governor John Volpe and served on the board of directors of the Citizenship Training Group, an affiliate of the Boston Juvenile Court.He was inducted into the Greater Attleboro Football Hall of Fame in 1981. He attended Boston University, where he played football, until volunteering for WWII. He later earned his BS degree at the University of Maryland. Major Feid was a member of the Portsmouth VFW, The Military Officers Association or America and a former member of the Portsmouth Rotary Club. He leaves a son Dale K. Feid and his wife Joan of East Haverhill, NH, and a daughter Patricia Heinz and her husband Timothy of Contoocook, NH. He also leaves his grandchildren Brandon Feid , Jennifer White, Brianne Heinz, Matthew Heinz and great grandchildren Alieke Feid, Micaela White, and Keegan White. Gordon is also survived by his sister in law Catherine Gagne of North Attleboro, MA. He was preceded in death by his sisters Edna and Miriam.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 18 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 19, at 10:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
