Grace Alma Williamson Hanson, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at the Village House Nursing Center Newport, RI. Born July 3, 1910 in North Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Alban Williamson and Jennie Lena Neudeck Williamson. Wife of the late Dr. Frederick Charles Hanson, MD, Capt. U.S. Navy Reserves, of Southbridge, MA. Mrs. Hanson graduated from Rhode Island College of Education now Rhode Island College and was an active alumna. She resided in Providence, RI from 1946 to 1976 and maintained a summer address at 545 Wolcott Avenue Middletown, RI from 1950 then year round after 1976.She was a long time and active member of Mathewson Street Methodist Church, in Providence and later a member of Calvary Methodist Church, Middletown.Grace Hanson was a violinist. She studied with Richard Bergin, concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Among her accomplishments, she played in Block Island in the 1930s at the posh Ocean House Hotel, at Mathewson Street Methodist Church in Providence, and St. Paul?s Methodist Church and Calvary Methodist Church for special services and at many area churches throughout her life. She also played in the Brown University Orchestra during the mid 1950s. She continued to play at Belcourt Castle in Newport for events throughout the 1980s. She is survived by two daughters Harle Hope Hanson Tinney and her husband Donald H. Tinney of Newport and Carol Joy Hanson Smith and her husband Gerald Smith of Providence. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Beverly Steere Comber of Williamsburg, VA, Norman Steere of Pittsburg, PA, and John L. Hanson of Sturbridge, MA.A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16 at 6:00 pm in the Calvary United Methodist Church Turner and Wyatt Roads Middletown, RI.Donations in her memory may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church 200 Turner Road Middletown, RI 02842
