Middletown, RI ? Gwendolyn Kent Christensen, 87, of 41 Clayton Street, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Arnold B. Christensen. Born in Newport, RI on April 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Grace Vars Kent.Mrs. Christensen was a 1937 graduate of Rogers High School. She was a supervisor in the bookkeeping department for 18 years at the former Savings Bank of Newport retiring in 1982. She then went to work for the Preservation Society of Newport County as a bookkeeper from 1983 to 2002. Mrs. Christensen was a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church and a volunteer at the thrift shop. She is survived by her children Arnold B. Christensen of Texas, Frederick K. Christensen of Tucson, AZ, Andrew M. Christensen of Newport, RI, Walter K. Christensen of Middletown, RI and Arlene Barbara Ponte of Newport, RI, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Henry L. Kent, Frederick Kent and Annabelle Harvey. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 10:00am in Emmanuel Church 40 Dearborn Street Newport, RI.Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
