Harold A. Goff

Harold Goff, 76, of Newport, passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2014, at home. Born on October 25, 1937, in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Harold A. and Cathrine P. (Short) Goff. Harold graduated from De La Salle High School in 1956, attended Roger Williams, URI and the New School for Social Research in New York City. He worked for Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco for 37 years.He was an original founding member of the Park Holm Boys Club which later morphed into the Newport Boys and Girls Club. Harold was an intrepid traveler as he liked to explore the world's cities. He was an avid book collector and had a passion for opera, serving as a supernumerary for the San Francisco Opera Company. Harold was also a sports fan following the three Boston teams and the New York Giants.Harold was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Goff and his sister Gail Smith.He leaves behind his four nephews, Bill Smith and his wife Sylvia of Lincoln, RI, Chris Smith and his wife Jamie of Tiverton, RI, Craig Smith and his wife Rhonda of Middletown, RI, and Dan Smith and his wife Kristen of Portsmouth, RI, his niece Ellen Zambrano, and eleven great nieces and nephews.Harold was a kind man with a big smile and he lived life to its fullest.
