Newport, RI - Harold ?Mac? McIntosh Jr, 65, a lifelong resident of the Fifth Ward, passed away after battling a brief illness. Surrounded by his loved ones, he was ushered into the presence of God. Born August 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Harold McIntosh Sr. and Elspeth R. Gerrie McIntosh.Mac was a graduate of the class of 1964 Rogers High School. Mac served our country as part of the Naval Armed Services from 1965-1968. After completing active duty, he left the Navy and became part of the civil service. He served in this capacity for over 23 years, receiving several awards and commendations. He also had a wide array of hobbies. Mac was an active member of the Newport County Saltwater Fishing Club, receiving numerous awards and accolades. In earlier years, Mac was a Deputy Fish Game Warden for the state of Rhode Island. Mac was well versed in the field of weapons, being part of both the Tiverton Rod Gun Club as well as the gun club located on Aquidneck Island. It was during this time that he received awards for his skill in skeet, marksmanship, trap, and rifle shooting. Mac was a well versed historian, spending countless hours researching the early stages of Newport County. Mac was also a well known photographer, receiving several awards for his work with scenes from Newport as well as other areas where he visited. Mac also assisted in the delivery of the Good News Newspaper, a ministry that he cherished. He loved his family and friends and could spend countless hours around Ocean Drive or in his secret fishing holes with his buddies. Mac is survived by his two sisters, Ethel G. McIntosh Sams and her husband Ronald P. Sams, and Diane McIntosh Bartel and her husband Robert A. Bartel, all of Middletown. Mac was preceded in death by his brother, Robert G. McIntosh. Mac?s nieces and nephews are Laura Jensen of Middletown, Patrick Sams and his wife Doreen of Florida, Kristin Baker and her husband Herbert of Middletown, Diane Michelle Alexander and her fianc Jesse Almeida of Middletown, Michael Alexander of Middletown, Matthew Sams and his wife Nicole of Middletown, Robert Bartel of Takoma Park, MD, Catherine Byrne of Swansea, MA, Stephen Fischer of Bristol, RI and Meghan Guild of Swansea, MA. Mac?s great nieces and nephews are Kyrstin, Brittni, Bryan, Zachary, Allyssa, Price, Brandon, Gianna, Meleigha, Sabina, Gabriella, Avery, Dakota, Kimberly, Stacey, Timothy, Amanda, Cullen and McKenna as well as eight great-great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011, from 4-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
