Middletown, RI ? Harold ?Jack? Uveges, 88, of Middletown, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Helena L. Souza Uveges. Born in Saratoga Springs, NY, on July 23, 1917, he was the son of the late John and Bertha Sellar Uveges.Mr. Uveges was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII and Korea, retiring as a TMC, after 20 years. He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch #19, where he served as Past President and received the Shipmate of the Year Award in 1985-1986, and a life member of the Elks Lodge #104, where he served as Past Trustee from 1967-1976, as well as the Chairman for several committees. Mr. Uveges was Elk of the Year in 1970 and 1971. He was also a member of the FOPA #8. Mr. Uveges helped to build the first Little League Field in 1953 at the corner of Girard and Maple Avenues, Newport. He had been a coach of the CPO team and later served as the Vice President of the Middletown Little League.Besides his wife he is survived by his son John M. Uveges of New Jersey, his daughter Tracy Ann Goodwin of California, his brother Carl Uveges of Virgina, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.Donations may be made in his memory to the Elks National Foundation, Care of BPO Elks #104, 141 Pelham Street, Newport, RI, 02840.
